2024 Annual General Meeting

Join us at 7:30 pm on Tuesday April 30th and find out what we did last year & where we are going this year, and allow you to ask questions.

The meeting is open to registered Club Members, members from 2023 & 2024 and the public interested in finding out more about the Club.

We will have drinks and a bit of food - cash donation

Again, this year, one lucky AGM attendee will win a Free WMBC membership. To be eligible, you need to attend the AGM and have bought your 2024 WMBC membership.

The venue for the meeting is the Main Chalet at the Walden Trails, 1 Denis Ave, Naughton.

The Knowledge Chain

 

This event is SOLD OUT!

Boost confidence in your bike and in yourself.

This series of woman-led MTB maintenance classes is designed to empower the women+ mountain bikers through concise demonstrations and hands-on learning. Knowledge is the best way to protect your investment and reduce mechanical issues, from cleaning best practices to fixing flats and mending chains!

As a participant, you will receive a course workbook to boost comprehension during the class and be your reference manual for continued learning. You do not need to bring your own bike as the instructor’s bike will be used for hands-on practice.

This Clinic is offered by StokedMTB.

Registration is open the WMBC Members until April 1. It opens to the gereral public after that time.

On Tuesday, May 21th, 2024, we will kick off the 2024 riding season with our first Social Group Ride.

Join WMBC for a group ride on the gravel in the New Sudbury area on the Minnow Lake and Moonlight Beach areas. Groups will be formed so that all skill levels are accommodated.

Beginner’s Skill Clinic - Part 1


The Club is hosting a 2-Part Beginner Skills Clinics on weekday evenings this spring.

Who can sign up?

  • You need to be a WMBC Member to participate

  • You need to be 18 or older.

  • Class size is limited to 25 riders.

  • This Clinic is for New, Beginner and Novice riders.

    • You are comfortable riding on pavement, but mountain biking is new to you. You have just started riding a mountain bike, but have not ridden on a trail

    • You have done some off-road trail riding, and mainly ride the wider double-track trails. You are not comfortable on narrow single-track trails with roots, rocks and curves. You walk around difficult sections and steeper up & down hills.

Cost

  • Free for Club Members

When is it?

  • The Clinics are held at the Walden Trails at 1 Denis Ave, Naughton, ON

  • Part 1 of the Clinic is held on Tuesday May 28

  • Part 2 of the Clinic is held on Tuesday June 4.

  • The Clinics run from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

  • Please show up 6 pm and be prepared to begin the clinicpromptly at 6:30 pm

Why is there Part 1 and Part 2?

  • The Full Beginner Clinic is 6 hours

  • To get the Full Clinic, you need to show up for two sessions.

  • You need to take Part 1 first, as Part 2 builds off of the skills learned in Part 1.

Flight School - Jump Clinic 1

The Club has technical trail features at the Walden Trails that get you into the air, but not everyone is comfortable with riding these features.

To give you the confidence to catch some air, the Club is offering skills clinics to teach you the techniques for riding jumps.

The Clinic is open to WMBC members age 19 and over. Get Your Membership here.

Two levels will be taught at each Clinic. An assessment will be made at the beginning of the clinic regarding your current skill level.

  • Level 1 - You are just starting to experiment with small jumps (up to 18” high), and want to go higher

  • Level 2 - You doing small jumps comfortably, but would like to challenge larger jumps

Date: Saturday, June 2nd, 9 am to Noon

Time:

  • 9 am - Skills Assessment

  • 9:30 am to 12:00 pm - instruction starting promptly at 9:30 pm so please arrive at 9 am for the assessment

Ages: 19 and over

Cost: Free for WMBC members

  • There is no Advanced Course for this race

  • Your results in this event will be used to calculate points in the Sudbury Fitness Challenge Race Series

Race Start Times

  • 6:00 pm

    • Kids events – 250 m and 700m

  • 6:30 pm – Mass Start in Waves

Cost per Person:

  • 2024 WMBC Members - $15, if you need a race plate

  • 2024 WMBC Members - $10, if you bring last green year’s race plate

This Clinic is Full.

The Club has arranged with Minii Adventures to provide clinic to teach people how to be a Group Ride Leader.

A brief overview of the Training:

  • Safety Briefing

    • Bike & Equipment Checks

    • Trail Etiquette

  • Understanding Group Dynamics

  • Navigation & Route Planning

  • Risk Management

    • Identify hazards and mitigate risk

  • Guiding Skills

    • Safety rules, class management and terrain communication

  • Emergency Preparedness

    • First Aid training

    • Mechanical skills for trailside repairs

    • Walden MTB Club’s Emergency Action Plan

  • Practical Skills

    • Basic bike-handling skills assessment (braking, shifting, body positioning etc.)

The Club is covering the cost of this clinic for members who offer to take on the responsibility of leading groups during our Club group rides.

Minii Adventures MTB Skills Jam 2024

Please note, that up to end of day May 24th, this event is open to MEMBERS of the WMBC only. On May 25th, registration is open to the public and the clinic price increases from $199 to $224 + HST.

Minii Adventures and the Walden MTB Club have partnered up for what is sure to be a great day on mountain bikes!

Available for riders ages 18+, from beginner to advanced, this day will have something for everyone. Featuring a morning skills & drills session to learn and practice new skills, followed by a trail ride to solidify your learning and enable you to practice your newly acquired or finely tuned skills on your local trails, all while getting more acquainted with your local MTB community.

Build confidence. Ride safer. Meet other riders. Have more fun on the trails.

THE DETAILS

+ Timing: Saturday, June 15 - 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

+ Learn from professional mountain bike instructors: Our coaches are a passionate group of local Ontario riders who are knowledgeable and inspiring and break down skills into simple and actionable steps that are easy to remember.

+ Small Group Sizes: To ensure a personal, safe and effective learning experience, groups are a 1:6 ratio [18 spaces total]. To maximize your progress, you will be with your coach for the whole day.

+ Available for: All Walden MTB members age 18+

+ Skill Level: beginner, intermediate, advanced.

Let us know in your registration form which group you prefer, but you may also be placed based on your riding experience and goals for the day.

+ Location: Walden MTB Trails/Cross-Country

+ Investment: $199 + HST ($224 + HST after May 24th)

+ Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email. We will be in touch again the week before the Skills Clinic with the final details, including the meeting location and what you need to bring.

Bush Pig Open Random 6-Hour Relay 2024

 

The 3rd Bush Pig Open Race in 2024 is Saturday, Aug 10th.

Come out and challenge yourself on the singletracks at Walden and enjoy the social vibe of a relay event.

What is a Random Relay?

This event is the Relay Race version of the Blind Date.

  • It is a regular relay race, except you don’t put together a relay team.

  • 4-person relay teams will be created at random, but based on ability, at 9:15 am from the group of seeded riders that register.

  • We also have a kids event, starting halfway thru the event. See details below.

  • It is a low-key, recreational event, designed with a big social component and lots of opportunities to meet other Club members.

Volunteer Registration:

  • These events can’t happen without volunteers. We need volunteers to set up, for registration and to time the racers.

Race Registration:

  • Online Registration Close 6 pm on Saturday, August 19th

  • Sign up online, to shorten your stand in the line, but pay on Race Day

  • The Registration Desk opens at 8:00 am on Race Day

  • Race-Day Registration is possible, but please arrive by 8:30 to get your name in the team name draw

Cost:

  • Relay Event:

    • WMBC Members - $10, if you bring a race green Bush Pig Open race plate

    • WMBC Members - $15, if you need a green race plate

    • Non-Members - $25, green BPO plate or no plate

    • Payment Race Day by cash, cheque, or e-transfer only.

  • Kids Event:

    • Free

Race Format: 

  • Relay Event:

    • This is a 4-person relay event. There are no Solo, 2-person or 3-person categories.

    • You don’t need to assemble a relay team. Teams will be selected at random the morning of the event at 9:15 am. Seeding will be used, in an attempt to make all teams equal teams, or close to equal.

    • On race day, drop by the registration desk between 8:00 and 9:00, pay for and pick up your race plate & fill out your draw prize ticket.

    • After registering, stake-out an area in the stadium area to call home for the day.

    • There is one recreational 5 km course that everyone rides

    • The races starts at 10 am. The team alternates riders, trying to complete as many laps in 6 hours.

    • Unless injured, each team member needs to complete the same number of laps or one less than the most completed by one team member.

    • Only fully completed laps count. A lap can’t be started after 3:40.

  • Kids Event

    • 1, 2, or 3 laps of a 200m course, Mass Start

    • Age Categories are Under 5 and Under 9

    • Registration for this event will be Day-Of only, ending at 12 noon.

The Mclean's 6 hour relay is a fun mountain bike race accessible to everyone.  Great for the serious competitor, the recreational weekend warrior or the entire family!

Teams try to complete as many laps of the course as they can over the six hours.  You can ride it solo or in teams of 2, 3 or 4!   Awards for top finishers as well as draw prizes and post-race BBQ.

Global Fat Bike Day 2023

On Saturday, December 2th, 2023, people from all over the globe will get out for a ride on their fat bike for the 11th annual GFBD.

We don’t want you to miss out on the fun, so join WMBC for a Fat Bike group ride at Kivi Park. Groups will be formed so that all skill levels are accommodated.

If you don’t have a fat bike, rentals are available through Melissa at Adventure365.

Non-WMBC members can join in the fun for $10.

If you are not a Kivi Member, you don’t need to buy a Kivi Day Pass for the ride. We have a day pass for you.

A Social will follow the ride starting at 2:00 pm at 46 North at 1275 Kelly Lake Rd, Sudbury.

The appetizers and draw prizes will abound.

  2. For the Social, we will be meeting at Alley Katz Bistro & Bar, 145 Regional Rd 24, Lively at 6:30 pm

  3. People will be gathering at 6:30.

  4. Food platters will served at 7pm.

    1. We need to pre-order the food, so tickets will not be sold at the door.

    2. Tickets are available for online purchase - $20.

Witches Ride 2023

Join us for our 3nd Annual Spook-tacular- urban ride.

Dress in you finest witch attire (mandatory).

We will be accepting donations to the Sudbury Food Bank (suggested donation $10)

You must have WMBC Membership to participate.

We will meet on Kelly Lake Road near 46 North Brewery and ride for approximately 20ish km at a social pace, returning to 46 North for some witch’s brew.

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day 2023

Sunday, October 1, 2023 is the day to come out to Kivi Park for a great trail ride with your kids.

Kivi Park is pulling out all their ride features to make it a great event.

The event will include:

  • Time on the Ramps

  • Laps on the PumpTrack

  • A guided trail ride

Location: Kivi Park, Main Parking Lot, Meet at the Adventure356 Rental Trailer

Time: 1 pm to 3 pm

Cost:

  • The event is Free, but requires a Kivi Annual Pass or Day Pass

  • For the day of the event, Kivi Park has offered 25% off a day pass good for an individual or family - Code: KIDSLOVEBIKING

Registration: The event is limited to 30 kids. Please register ahead of time.

Each kid must:

  • Be accompanied by an Adult. No drop-offs allowed.

  • Be able to ride a bike without assistance or training wheels

  • Bring a bike in good working order

  • Wear a helmet while riding

  • Bring a water bottle in a cage on their bike or in a backpack

Note:

  • Strider bikes can be used on the ramps and pump track, but not on the trail ride.

The 4th Bush Pig Open Race in 2023 is Tuesday September 12th Sunday September 24th..
Come out and challenge yourself on your favourite single tracks on the upper loop at Walden.

Volunteer Registration

  • These events can’t happen without volunteers. We need 12 volunteers.

  • Pre-registration closes at 6 pm on Monday Sep 11th Saturday September 23rd.

  • Pre-register and spend less time in line.

Race Registration:

  • Option 1 - Pre-register before Saturday Sep 23rd at 6 pm & pay on Race Day

  • Option 2 - Sign up & pay on Race Day

  • The registration Desk opens at 10:45 qm on Race Day

  • Pay, confirm the legs you are racing and pick up your plate

Cost:

  • WMBC Members - $5, if you bring last year’s race plate (green background)

  • WMBC Members - $10, if you need a race plate

Course:  The course map is published on Trailforks and will be marked to ride on the Sunday before the race.

Race Format: 

  • You must wear a bicycle helmet at this event.

  • Race only the Legs that you want to. You don’t need to race every Leg.

  • This is an interval race. Riders start 30 seconds apart.

  • You need to start a subsequent Leg within 10 minutes of completing the previous Leg

  • On race day, drop by the registration desk, pay for and pick up your race plate & enter for a draw prize

Prizes:  No awards, but a draw for prizes will be made after the event, around 1:30 pm

The MTB Exchange is a private non-profit provincial women's MTB Club. They are a collective of women's ride groups found at different hubs across Ontario giving members direct access to participate in their ride-sharing program.

    • You don’t need to assemble a relay team. Teams will be selected at random the morning of the event at 9:15 am. Seeding will be used, in an attempt to make all teams equal teams, or close to equal.

    • On race day, drop by the registration desk between 8:00 and 9:00, pay for and pick up your race plate & fill out your draw prize ticket.

    • After registering, stake-out an area in the stadium area to call home for the day.

    • There is one recreational 5 km course that everyone rides

    • The races starts at 10 am. The team alternates riders, trying to complete as many laps in 6 hours.

    • Unless injured, each team member needs to complete the same number of laps or one less than the most completed by one team member.

    • Only fully completed laps count. A lap can’t be started after 3:40.

  • Kids Event

    • 1, 2, or 3 laps of a 200m course, Mass Start

    • Age Categories are Under 5 and Under 9

    • Registration for this event will be Day-Of only, ending at 12 noon.

Race Times: 

  • Day of Race Registration Opens: 8:00 am

  • Day of Race Registration Closes: 9:00 am

  • Drawing Names for Teams: 9:15 am

  • Race Start: 10:00 am

  • Kids Race Registration Closes: 12:00 pm

  • Kids Race Starts: 1:00 pm

  • Last Rider Out: 3:40 pm

WMBC is providing the trails for OCUP #3 in the 2023 Ontario Cup Mountain Bike Series.

The event will include pre-rides on Friday evening and Saturday.

Closes Wed, Jul. 26 @ midnight
- Adults $70 to $85
- U17 Sport $65
- U15 $55
- U13 $45

One Day Permits are not available from Ontario Cycling (OC) for this race.

You need to be an OC member to race at this event.

It takes 1-2 weeks to get your OC membership.

To register online for O-Cup #3, racers will need

  1. A UCI License, or

  2. A Ontario Provincial Race License, or

    - AGE: 19+ - $93
    - AGE: U19 - $48

  3. A WMBC membership and an OC Associated Club Membership (ACM) affiliated with Walden Mountain Bike Club & WolfPak - Send an email to info@waldenmbc.ca for a link to register for the race with an ACM.

    - AGE: 19+ - $51

Because WMBC is hosting this race, an OC ACM allows Walden Mountain Bike Club members to race at O-Cup #3. If you are a member of WMBC, and have an ACM affiliated with another OC club, you can change your club affiliation by emailing Chris Baskys at OC and requesting the change.

We need 27 volunteers for the event.

Registering as a Volunteer is a 3-Step process and takes about 30 minutes in total.

Minii Adventures and the Walden MTB Club have partnered up for what is sure to be a great day on mountain bikes!

Available for riders ages 18+, from beginner to advanced, this day will have something for everyone. Featuring a morning skills & drills session to learn and practice new skills, followed by a trail ride to solidify your learning and enable you to practice your newly acquired or finely tuned skills on your local trails. All while getting more acquainted with your local MTB community.

Build confidence. Ride safer. Meet other riders. Have more fun on the trails.

Sunday, June 25 - 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

+ Learn from professional mountain bike instructors: Our coaches are a passionate group of local Ontario riders that are knowledgeable and inspiring and break down skills into simple and actionable steps that are easy to remember.

+ Small Group Sizes: To ensure a personal, safe and effective learning experience, groups are a 1:6 ratio [18 spaces total]. To maximize your progress, you will be with your coach for the whole day.

+ Available for: All Walden MTB members age 18+

+ Skill Level: beginner, intermediate, advanced.

Let us know in your registration form which group you prefer, but you may also be placed based on your riding experience and goals for the day.

We want to engage our trail work volunteers, have them learn new techniques to build sustainable, multi-use trails, and make it an enjoyable weekend.

The IMBA Canada Trail Care Crew is a dynamic team of professional trail-builders, educators, and enablers. The Crew travels across the country, getting Canadians of all ages outdoors, and educating them about sustainable trails.

Registration is limited to 20 people.
